some excellent microbrews you should try

So this past Friday I went to a nice beer shop where you can buy microbrews by the bottle, and I picked up 3 beers.

Flying Dog Tire Bite Golden Ale
I've heard a lot of great things about Flying Dog, especially their darker beers, but since it was a nice hot summer day, I decided to go with a smooth golden ale. This beer was fantastic. It went down smooth like a lighter beer, but still had the ale "bite" to it. Plenty of flavor as well.

Turbodog Dark Brown Ale
I had this the other day at a bar, and I absolutely loved it. For fans of Newcastle or Brooklyn Brown Ale. A very dark ale with flavors of coffee and chocolate, and an initial bite. Not too high in alcohol content, so it's a great beer to either relax with or enjoy in a short time period.

Dogfish Head Midas Touch

I really love Dogfish Head beers. I've loved every beer of theirs that I have had (which isnt that much, but still). This beer is modeled after an ancient Turkish recipe. Tastes like grapes, a very pleasant surprise. Definitely recommend this one.

now we play the waiting game...

So my beer has been primed and bottled. Now I just have to keep them in a cool place for about 10-14 days until they are ready to drink. The bottling process was pretty hectic, and I was pretty relieved when it was done.

As for commercial beer, I recently got my hands on Dogfish Head's 120 Minute Imperial IPA.

Wow. So incredibly hoppy, it was almost a struggle to get through one (Dogfish Head recommends you either sip through one 12 ounce bottle over the course of a night, or split it). It had an excellent taste and complexity, but it was so strong and bitter that I had to step away for a little. I would definitely recommend this beer to any hop-lover, just be careful, its 18% alcohol and only brewed 3 times a year. Enjoy!

Check out this awesome dude.

Robert G Ingersoll (1833-1899)
"Our civilization is not Christian. It does not come from the skies. It is not a result of 'inspiration.' It is the child of invention, of discovery, of applied knowledge -- that is to say, of science. When man becomes great and grand enough to admit that all have equal rights; when thought is untrammeled; when worship shall consist in doing useful things; when religion means the discharge of obligations to our fellow-men, then, and not until then, will the world be civilized."

"In all ages hypocrites, called priests, have put crowns on the heads of thieves, called kings."

"Nothing could add to the horror of hell, except the presence of its creator, God. While I have life, as long as I draw breath, I shall deny with all my strength, and hate with every drop of my blood, this infinite lie."

"
The clergy know that I know that they know that they do not know."

"
This century will be called Darwin's century. He was one of the greatest men who ever touched this globe. He has explained more of the phenomena of life than all of the religious teachers. Write the name of Charles Darwin on the one hand and the name of every theologian who ever lived on the other, and from that name has come more light to the world than from all of those. His doctrine of evolution, his doctrine of the survival of the fittest, his doctrine of the origin of species, has removed in every thinking mind the last vestige of orthodox Christianity. He has not only stated, but he has demonstrated, that the inspired writer knew nothing of this world, nothing of the origin of man, nothing of geology, nothing of astronomy, nothing of nature; that the Bible is a book written by ignorance -- at the instigation of fear. Think of the men who replied to him. Only a few years ago there was no person too ignorant to successfully answer Charles Darwin; and the more ignorant he was the more cheerfully he undertook the task. He was held up to the ridicule, the scorn and contempt of the Christian world, and yet when he died, England was proud to put his dust with that of her noblest and her grandest. Charles Darwin conquered the intellectual world, and his doctrines are now accepted facts."

The Irish are pretty funny.

This reminds me... There are no such thing as religious children, just inept parents and child abuse. Dawkins is right.

Also, here's something to cheer you up.

Beer is coming along well

I recently started brewing my own beer. After spending all my money on decent equipment and ingredients, it finally happened. For my first brew, I am making a dark ale. I started the project on Sunday, June 7th.

Here's a pic of it on Sunday night.

As of yesterday, I took the blow-off tube out and put a fermentation lock on it.

We'll see how it turns out.
